The room is a newsroom

Students in C201 write, crew, switch, and deliver. Crismon Network is a student-run three-camera newscast, not a slide show. Barrett holds the work to a professional standard: coverage that cuts, sound that holds, credits that name everyone who earned them.

Film & TV Production 1 builds the grammar. Years 2 and 3 put students on longer packages, live directing, campus partners, and SkillsUSA.

The maker

Thirty years of picture

Barrett came to teaching after a career in video recording and post-production — Horse Medicine Productions and Vision Maker Media — cutting stories for brands, nonprofits, and campaigns. The same pipeline he used as an editor is the one students learn here: write it, shoot it, cut it, get it in front of people.

College of Santa Fe. Still a working storyteller. The classroom is not a retirement from the craft — it is the craft, handed over.

What he asks of students

Show up on time. Know the shot list. Treat the kit like it has to last the next crew. Tell the truth of the room you are in — wrestling, a classroom, a morning announcement — and finish the piece so the school can actually watch it.
